Spreading Out Your Doses

The short answer is yes. You can take the full daily amount of Daily Essential Nutrients all at once without any risks. However, we recommend that you split your daily intake into three doses to increase absorption and ensure your body has the nutrients it needs to optimize mood and stay balanced throughout the whole day.
Optimize AbsorptionEvery time we ingest food, it gets broken down into essential macro and micronutrients that our bodies need to survive. The thing is, not all foods are created equal. So the way we digest nutrients varies, too. Eat a lot of processed foods one day? Food quality will affect your nutrient uptake. Pregnant? That means your body needs even more nutrition. Genetics, athletic status, age, illnesses, etc., all play into the body’s ability to absorb nutrients.

So how can a person completely optimize absorption of supplemental nutrients?
You could spend the whole day ingesting various supplements at differing times, some with fibrous food, some with fatty food, some with carbs, some without, some with protein, some without, some between meals without food, some in the morning, some in the evening...but that’s not a very realistic routine.

Active vs. Passive Absorption
Some may ask “Won’t this affect the balance between active and passive absorption?”
Active absorption requires energy input in order to create specific ratios of given nutrients across cell membranes. Important functions are dependent on these ratios in the body. Sometimes the size of a nutrient or the polarity of a nutrient requires energy input to help it move through the cell membrane. Active transport processes require nutrients like B vitamins, phosphorus, sodium, and potassium.
Passive absorption can be less critical unless one takes too much which would contribute to a nutrient imbalance.
Our bodies have mechanisms that limit absorption or increase absorption depending on the nutrient density of our food. Supplemental nutrients will absorb in a dose-dependent fashion. In general, the more you take, the more that will absorb. That is also why Hardy Nutritionals focuses on providing high-quality formulas that are well balanced, so they will be proportionate to the needs of the body.
