Our micronutrient formulations are the culmination of many years of research and product development.

At Hardy Nutritionals®, we are very passionate about ensuring that all our formulations are research-backed. For example, our founder David L. Hardy spent nearly 15 years co-developing† a specialized micronutrient formulation which is widely researched before founding Hardy Nutritionals®. David’s products† have been studied extensively by independent researchers at many universities, including Harvard, Ohio State, Calgary (Canada), and Canterbury (New Zealand), for various aspects of health—particularly mood and anxiety-related disorders such as bipolar disorder, depression, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and OCD. This research has resulted in over 40 publications in medical journals. A 2011 article in BMC Psychiatry noted that there is “more published and ongoing research on this formula† [the micronutrient formula David co-developed] for mental health than on any other complex formula anywhere in the world.”

Since 2011, multiple additional clinical trials have been published using both Hardy micronutrient formulas - Daily Essential Nutrients & Optimal Balance - including several double-blind, randomized controlled trials.  Our Hardy Nutritionals® team of scientists is excited to remain at the forefront of nutritional health research and product development.

Daily Essential Nutrients is currently approved as an investigational new drug by the FDA but has not been approved for any treatment claims. However, independent research conducted at many universities around the world has shown that Daily Essential Nutrients consistently delivers significant improvements in mood, stress, and anxiety symptoms in disorders such as bipolar disorder, depression, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and OCD.

Clinical experience provides the following general improvements:

  1. Improved cognition (clearer thinking, less brain fog, improved attention)

A prominent psychiatric textbook, "Complementary and Integrative Treatments in Psychiatric Practice”, published in 2017 by the American Psychiatric Association, features broad-spectrum micronutrients as a “physiologically sensible approach” to treating various mental health disorders. The authors conclude, “Evidence suggests that broad-spectrum micronutrients may aid in the treatment of aggressive behavior, conduct problems, ADHD, and mood disorders.”

Now backed by over 40 independent medical journal publications for the treatment of mood and mental health disorders, broad-spectrum micronutrients are becoming an increasingly viable alternative to psychotropic medications in the medical community.

Published by the American Psychiatric Association and designed as a modern handbook for psychiatrists, Complementary and Integrative Treatments in Psychiatric Practice focuses on evidence-based treatments and includes a chapter on using broad-spectrum micronutrients to treat mood and mental health.

Drug discontinuation syndromes can be induced by reducing medications too quickly.  Overmedication can occur when reducing medications too slowly. Overmedication effects can be magnified when micronutrients are used alongside medications due to the effects of potentiation. During treatment, careful attention to side-effects of medication(s) will be vital in order to taper medication(s) optimally.

Micronutrients provide stability, but they also potentiate CNS active medications. During treatment, careful attention to the side effects of medication(s) will be informative in order to taper medication(s) optimally. Overmedication can occur when reducing medications too slowly. Discontinuation effects can be induced by reducing medication(s) too quickly.

Daily Essential Nutrients Protocols & Outcomes: Dr. Janet Settle

We highly recommend all clinicians complete our free Clinical Micronutrient Training to ensure the highest rate of patient success.

Our experience is that while Daily Essential Nutrients can initially be taken safely with most medications, both doctor and patient should expect that over time many types of medications will need to be adjusted or gradually eliminated while using Daily Essential Nutrients. An optimally functioning, healthy body has no need for medications, so it should be no surprise that using a natural intervention as powerful and comprehensive as Daily Essential Nutrients can eliminate the need for certain medications or at least require dose reductions.

If patients are taking any medication, we strongly recommend that they are monitored by a physician who is familiar with how Hardy micronutrients are likely to interact with the medications they are taking. The knowledgeable product specialists and scientists at Hardy Nutritionals can direct both doctors and patients to resources that can help.

Schedule your free Clinical Micronutrients Training Course to learn about:

As the world's leading formulator of micronutrients for mental health, Hardy Nutritionals® is committed to remaining at the forefront of nutrition research and development. As a result, we are pleased to introduce our newest supplement, Daily Essential Nutrients With Added Vitamers (DEN-V). This product is a powerful addition to our line-up of clinical micronutrients and is now available in both capsule and powder form.

In nature, vitamins occur in several related forms known as vitamers. Each vitamer exhibits biological activity in the functional metabolism of a particular vitamin, especially against a specific vitamin deficiency. Vitamers are simply different forms of vitamins than the typical forms found in multivitamin supplements. For example, dietary Vitamin B12 naturally consists of at least three different vitamers, or forms, all of which are available in the new DEN With Added Vitamers formula. These include methylcobalamin, adenosylcobalamin, and hydroxocobalamin. Together these forms provide a more natural balance and may help when genetic issues affect the function of a single form.
